A day in Tel Aviv with METRO Accelerator for Retail

METRO Accelerator for Retail powered by Techstars will be traveling across Europe through February in order to meet disruptive retail startups. While we will travel to these amazing destinations and coworking spaces, with these blogs I would like to share with you our #CityInADay tour.

Today we are in Tel Aviv!

9:30 am – We landed last night in Tel Aviv and it was a great opportunity for me to have a nice quiet little walk in Tel Aviv before the eventful day tomorrow. Was greeted with amazing blue skies and 22°C, it almost felt like summer.

10:30 am – We arrived at the Barclays Accelerator powered by Techstars. Yasmin, the program manager welcomed us and the place was quite bustling. The new program from Barclays started only 3 days ago and the startups were busy making the rounds in the Barclays offices in Tel Aviv.

11:30 amAlexander Hafner, our Managing director from Techstars arrived for his 1st appointment for the day. The office hours for the day were scheduled to run until 3:30 pm.

Office hours are one-to-one meeting with Alexander Hafner, our Managing director from Techstars and Sebastian Campos Groth, our Program manager. It is a great opportunity to pitch your startup to professionals and to get to know more about our program, and how you can benefit from it.

If you are interested in participating in Office hours or meetups, find your city and register here.

Located in the center of Tel Aviv, next to the Great Synagogue and Rothschild Boulevard, the space used to be the offices of the Stock exchange. The building is now an innovation center. You get in through grand theater style entrance, from under this impressively humongous Mindspace signage. On the 4th Floor, you can find Barclays Accelerator offices and on the 5th, Rise offices. Rise Tel Aviv, powered by Barclays Bank, is an exclusive global community of exciting startups and entrepreneurs. There is a beautiful space for events, a cyber lab, and office spaces for startups who are interested in working in a co-working environment.

The interior architects probably followed the theme “unexpected” when they worked on the project because even the elevators are looked so unique. The best spot of the space is however – the rooftop! The view of the city from atop is just unmatched.

4.00 pm – Debriefing. We say goodbye to Shirley, the community managers at ThinkRise and we walk back to the hotel after a few very productive hours, to enjoy the rest of the afternoon in a sunlit cafe.

7:00 pm – It was time for dinner. We walked through the streets of Tel Aviv to go to Romano. Located in an inside cozy yard, this restaurant believes in putting all its efforts towards food, and it was well deserving of its praise. We also had the chance to have with us Ronen and Shay from Jagger, alumni of our 2016 class of the Hospitality program.
