A day in Paris with METRO Accelerator for Retail

METRO Accelerator for Retail powered by Techstars will be traveling across Europe during February in order to meet disruptive retail startups. While we will travel to these amazing destinations and coworking spaces, with these blogs I would like to share with you our #CityInADay tour.

Today we are in Paris!

9:00 am – Landed in Paris Charles de Gaulle airport with Sebastian Campos Groth, the program manager of METRO Accelerator for Retail from Techstars. It’s foggy and raining but Paris is beautiful in any weather.

11:00 am – We stopped over at l’île de la cité to get a taste of those renowned French croissants but we realized that we won’t have enough time. So instead we decided to walk through le Marais to go to Partech Shaker where we were to meet the startups.

11:30 am – Arrived at Partech shaker. Here’s what I have to say: French startups, if you are looking for a place to work, I think you should definitely check out this place. The staff was very nice and the common areas are modern and swanky. And the location is such a huge plus.

Partech Shaker is a startup campus launched by Partech Ventures. The campus is putting a lot of effort on inviting many VCs and mentors from diverse backgrounds to participate in their meetups and conferences, in order to advance the resident startups and give them opportunities to scale up in a dynamic environment.

12:30 pmBoris Minialai Global Director Retail Franchise at METRO AG and a METRO veteran with an impressive gamut of experience under his sleeve joined us at the venue. Boris is key member of the METRO Accelerator team and a notable speaker at the #CityInADay meetups.

Office hours are one-to-one meeting with Alexander Hafner, our Managing director from Techstars and Sebastian Campos Groth, our Program manager. It is a great opportunity to pitch your startup to professionals and to get to know more about our program, and how you can benefit from it.
If you are interested in participating in Office hours or meetups, find your city and register here.

3:30 pm – The work is coming to a wrap. And we were happy with the people we met, and the places we saw. It’s still a little bit to go for the dinner and we all agreed that a little rest time after the early flight would do us all good.

7:00 pm – On our way to the dinner in a very intriguing restaurant tonight, recommended by Bertier Luyt, Managing Director at Techstars. The restaurant is called Chez Casimir. It has been created in 1998 by Thierry Breton a very famous French chef. Before we started the dinner, Bertier explained that the adjacent restaurant is actually from the same owner. We got a chance to visit the wine cave and to choose our own bottle of red wine for the table right there. The food was delicious and equally impressive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

11:57 pm – Time to call it a night. We spent some great moments in Paris today and engaged in interesting conversations about the future of Retail. Thank you all for participating!
